Procedure for retracting published articles

The journal Oil and Gas Power Engineering is committed to upholding academic integrity and follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Retractions are applied when breaches of research ethics or serious errors compromise the reliability of a published article.

Grounds for retraction

An article may be retracted in cases of:

  • plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification;
  • duplicate or redundant publication without appropriate attribution;
  • authorship falsification and identity theft (including the inappropriate addition or removal of authors);
  • systematic manipulation or the use of “paper mills” producing fabricated manuscripts on a commercial scale;
  • use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in ways that distort findings or conceal the extent of AI involvement;
  • substantial errors that undermine the validity of the results;
  • conflicts of interest that significantly affect conclusions;
  • copyright violations or the improper use of third-party materials.

Retraction procedure

  1. A complaint or suspicion of misconduct is submitted to the Editorial Board.
  2. An internal investigation is conducted, with independent experts consulted if necessary.
  3. Authors are notified and given the opportunity to respond.
  4. The Editorial Board makes a final decision and publishes a formal retraction notice.

Handling of retracted materials

  • Retracted articles remain available in the journal archive but are clearly marked as “Retracted”.
  • A retraction statement is linked to the article, specifying the reasons for withdrawal.
  • Bibliographic information is preserved to ensure the accuracy of citations.

Alternative measures

If an error does not undermine the central results, the following actions may be taken instead of retraction:

  • Correction (corrigendum/erratum) – where errors are attributable to authors or the Editorial Office;
  • Addendum – where additional information becomes available after publication.

Timeliness of procedures

The Editorial Office strives to handle all retraction cases promptly and transparently. In most instances, the process from the initial report to publication of the decision will not exceed 60 days.
